Eclectic Home Tour・Summer 2017

Helloooo, summer!! 👋🏻 I’m friggen’ pumped to bring you my very first eclectic home tour!! Thank you so much, Jess (Domicile 37), for inviting me to be part of this wildly creative group of home décor bloggers. These lovely ladies posted their own tours every day this week, so be sure to click on those links at the bottom of this here post. Ga’head. You know you wanna.

First and foremost, welcome to the Brigham Craftsman! A 1934 Craftsman Bungalow, we’ve called this humble abode home for three and a half years (closing two days before we got hitched, too 🙈).

I’m a lover of antiques and love to blend the old with the new. Not to mention, I’m a haggler at heart who lives for the hunt. 😂 My favorite pieces tend to be historical ones, an heirloom with a story attached to it. Needless to say, my home has a vast (and growing) collection of #crapidontneed. I yolk, I yolk!!

We’ll begin the office: I debated for more than a year to paint this a moody color. Finally, I got to this bad boy this past January. (Before & After here!) I kicked my IKEA apartment office leftovers to the curb and worked to utilize all the square footage of this small space. I’m still debating whether to paint the trim the same color. 🤔

And when you see two tropical swivel rockers in a thrift shop and you’re immediately drawn to sit in them (for 20-minutes no less), you just freaking buy them.

Craigslist is my best friend. It’s where I found the pieces I knew I had to find to get this project off the ground running – my desk and filing cabinet. My desk is an early-1920s, multi-paneled secretary and my wood file cabinet is from the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Library in Philadelphia. How effin cool is that?!

My mid century shelving unit (inspired by none other than Dabito) only gained me about six extra inches, but it draws your eye to our high ceilings and makes the room feel so much bigger.

Adjoining the office is the living room. The tides began to shift in here when I purchased this insane, 400-lb. two-tier marble and brass console for $44 at auction. Yes, forty-four dollars (proudest thrift to-date). The Venetian Hollywood Regency mirror belonged to my grandparents. If you squint, you can see their b&w wedding photo on the shelf with all of my faves.

Our living room is a wild child. I painted her white this winter and haven’t stopped throwing paint at this blank canvas ever since. Cascadia Blue Article sofa, eBay-thrifted brass peacock, 65-year old dragon bone cactus from an estate sale … I blame Edgar. He’s changed me into a bold, colorful nut (and I like it). Also, shoutout to Kaekoo Throw Pillows ’cause Kaeley is AMAZING.

The living room is almost there! Dreaming of brass sconces on the fireplace (or removing them entirely to be able to play with the mantel layout more), a solid wood mantel, a new ceiling fixture (fan or fab? 🤔), bookshelves where the HVAC protrudes to make use of the dead space by our front entry, replacing the (cracked & uneven) crap tile around the fireplace, and maybe – just, maybe! – a vintage blue and blush tribal rug.

Our Master Bedroom is a work in progress. I’m dreaming of rusty orange or dusty gray/deep purple bedding and painting her walls white with an accent color wall or, better yet, wallpaper.

Our master also hosts our very first furniture child: an early-1900s mirrored oak armoire. We paid good money, but for her condition, we got’r for a steal. It all balances out, ’cause the 15-drawer mid century modern dresser was $80. She deserves a good refinishing this summer.

My pizzazz-ed interiors took flight in our main bath during the last One Room Challenge (Before & After here!). She’s windowless, but the bright white and the dark ceiling make her look HUGE. It’s also the first time I was forced to buy faux plants, but it’s grown on me!!

I also can’t say enough how much I love this brass hardware by Pepe & Carols and the plant prints from Vivid Atelier. Ugh. I DIE.

And a sneak peek on what I’m currently working on. This dining room is gonna be off the hooookkkkk if I don’t say so myself. Stay tuned.

If you go through that dining room door, there’s a secret third guest room upstairs (‘cause we a bungalow, yo). This is the Indigo Room. She was last year’s undertaking. Her before and after is a total must see!!

Since my kitchen is like 😐, I invite you to bear witness to the one vignette that brings me joy every single day. I’m still working on my latte art game. Fallin’ short. 😩☕️ She’s extra pretty with the catmint from the garden.

The best part of this year is the backyard. We have a double lot bordering forest, so you’d never even know we’re in a city surburb! After three seasons knee-deep in reversing neglect, our perennial garden is coming in rather beautiful now. There’s still some areas to get to. We don’t talk about those. 😐

It’s been a wet spring in New England, but I’m feeling the warm summer vibes a’coming. The garden (and hubby’s grass) is looking mighty fine with all these rain showers. 💦☔️💦
