Vibrant Mid-Century Glam Living Room Refresh – THE REVEAL

Cue “In the Mood” by the Glenn Miller Orchestra, ‘cause we’re hopping onto one deliciously glamorous and jazzy ride. My parents’ living room was rocking good roots—natural light, vaulted ceilings, chic lithographs and brassy metals, you see. All she craved was a snazzy, colorful refresh to craft a proper cozy, and of course, a modern-day Roaring 20s dream scene. Teamed up with Article, I did just that.

The glitz, the glam: How magnificent is this color explosion?! This is, quite possibly, my favorite living room transformation to-date, most especially with such palm-y fronds (stepdaddio requires palms at poolside in the summertime #choice).

Previously, the living room was feeling a smidge cold, disproportionate and tough to navigate. Now, this vibrant mid-century glam living room feels so much more open, allows the previous finds to shine, and quite frankly, has the pulse of a 1920s flapper (who unabashedly loves her garb in every garish color).

Let’s have a chat about Sven (we all know how much I love this guy). How gorrrgeous is the Sven Sofa in Yarrow Gold? That luminous tufted velvet, just a touch away from chartreuse, is sofa eye candy on crack. It’s deep, cushy as all heck, and couldn’t look sexier atop tapered wooden legs. Ayyy, Mami! You say it’s nap time? OKKK fine.

Also, it’s Mama Cat approved. 😻

There was an extensive color palette to play with from the start, pulling bold and bright hues from the myriad of french posters, pretty palms, and brassy accoutrements (chandelier, bar cart, sunbursts, table lamps, etc.). It’s amazing what a little bitta color can do to the things you’ve already accrued. 

For example, how ahhhmazing does that gargantuan vintage Bally poster look now?! The saturated golds in the sofa and frame are totally jiving. PS – good job thrifty Mama for stocking up on these solid finds. 💯

One of the main goals: bring entertaining back! In bygone days, all serveware was being stored on the first level in an old credenza. Enter Oscuro, with her moody wood finish and fluted glass doors (insert salty dog kinda whistle). This unit discreetly stores mismatched serveware and distracts guests with shimmery brushed brass gams instead. Plus, I’ve always loved those shapely gold table lamps and they look BOMB atop this cabinet.

The Oscuro cabinet has a B-F-F, her name’s Oscuro coffee table and it’s got even more storage, boo. This luxe yet understated cocktail table has two sizable compartments great for storing everyday items that gather over time. So like when you’ve got a real life to lead, but you wanna be stylish af, just tuck away those nooks and crans in here, girrrrrl.

But how cute is that thrifted lidded brass duck bowl? Found that cutie for Xmas. 😙

Cueing the “Chattanooga Choo-Choo,” let me walk you over to the splendid seating area where I’d like to cordially introduce the Embrace Chair. If you haven’t already met (they also live in my house ‘cause hashtag obsessed), then thank god you’re here.

Those moody cerulean blue beauties are equally as comfortable to the touch as they are to lounge on. Accentuated each arm chair with the former throw pillows that are looking waaaay more fly this time around. The Narrow Brass Side Table brings in even more brass and a touch of Italian Carrara marble for convenience and class. 

Also, could the rich blue hue in the Joplin Multi Rug match up any better? Oh she’s hotsy-totsy, all right.

The biggest challenge in the living room: the structural column. Since thousands of dollars for a structural beam weren’t in the budget, I strived to conceal its existence with what was available. Simply moving the plant off to the side took a majority of attention away from it. The seamless white paint helps minimize its impact as well. 

The structural column also limited the rug selection to an 8 x 10-footer. If given the option, I would’ve much preferred a 9’ x 12’ rug in this space. Ya do what you gotta do.

In a living room that seemingly couldn’t have felt any bigger, these striking furnishings instantly created a grounding sense of balance in such a vast space. The low profile mid century-inspired sofa and chairs add depth through color and the illusion of spaciousness (not that it needed it, but dang why not). This living room feels so much more open and inspiring, and continues to tie in the colorful cohesiveness of my parents’ home.

After all this hard work,
I have to go see a man about a dog. 😎🥃
