In the second of a swift three part series, we’re building a belgian block border and pouring concrete footings for a hardtop gazebo:⁠
⁠⁠
1️⃣ Dig a 8”-10” trench to expose block 3”-4” high ⁠
2️⃣ Mix and pour mortar base, approx. 2-3” deep⁠
3️⃣ Lay and mallet blocks into place⁠
4️⃣ Mark and dig 12” deep footings⁠
5️⃣ Mix and pour concrete (a.k.a. thank mixer)⁠
6️⃣ Rake dirt pit nice n’ flat⁠

When I was sourcing the cafe curtain panels for the dining room rehab, I was drumming up estimates of $200+ for six petite panels 😱 anddd your girl just wasn’t having that.⁠

I’m notta natural born seamstress by any stretch of the imagination. But where there’s a will, there’s a way. So you can betcha bottom dolla I made these cafe curtain panels for a grand total of $35!!! Chaaaa-ching. 💰⁠

Similarly, I saved about 30% the average cost on this particularly precious style of inside-mount cafe curtain rods by sourcing them from a small business I discovered on Amazon. Plus, they custom cut the rods free-of-charge. Go check out Shade Doctor of Maine—I’ll link them in stories! ☀️⁠

In the first of a swift three part series, we’re building a belgian block corner apron! The blocks lay flat versus upright and require a solid, no messin’ around foundation to ensure they’ll last for-ev-aaaahh. ⁠
⁠
Why the heck did we build an apron?! We’ve got a WILD shared driveway sitch here at the Brigham Bungalow and this corner is constantly run over creating a lasting dusty dirt or mud-pit.

Alas, no more!!!⁠ 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻

Here’s what you’ll need ta-do to knock this bb outta the park in two days flat:⁠
⁠
1️⃣ Dig + tamp flat a 10-inch deep hole⁠
2️⃣ Bring in the big guns (a.k.a. husband) to dig faster⁠ 😂
3️⃣ Add 2-inches of aggregate⁠
4️⃣ Add rebar, cut-to-size with metal cutters⁠
5️⃣ Pour concrete base (4/5-inches)—a mixer is your bff!!⁠
6️⃣ Mark a level line + lay belgian block (3/4-inches deep) ⁠
7️⃣ Mark + cut edges with a (terrifying) cutoff saw⁠
8️⃣ Grout the lines, if you prefer—I kept as-is!⁠
