Let it be known, this mid-century glam living room refresh is my homage to the modern-day Roaring 20s. In partnership with Article, one of my favorite modern furniture brands, I’m elevating this deco vibe leanin’ living space from just a bit drab to redonkulously fab.
Sure hope you’re sitting down, sweet frond; these vibrant, vivacious, and velvety furnishings are going to knock your glamour-lovin’ socks off.
Behold 😮 the design board!!!
In December 2019, I transformed my parents funky guest bathroom into an inviting, bold and glammy oasis. I’m carrying on this bold and glamorous ride into the nearby living room, where traditional family hand-me-downs have reigned supreme (and somehow managed to quash the spacioness of a living room replete with a notably vaulted ceiling, skylights and picture window 🤨).
Fun fact about this contemporary raised ranch: in the original floor plan, the living room was once open to the ground floor below, which explains its slender shape (and not-so-ideal support column). The living area is super long and runs rather narrow width-wise, measuring in at a whopping 21-feet x 9-feet.
The family furnishings were quality pieces (two 7-foot plus long sofas as well as the coffee and side table set). However, they felt a touch too traditional, and more importantly, often felt like they congested this bright and airy space in the only layout that seemed sensible (facing each other width-wise).
P.S. – THIS IS A NO WASTE PROJECT!! The old heirloom furnishings live on in my awesome neighbor’s (aka framily) long af living room. I procured my neighbor’s kickass MCM sofa (that I can’t wait to reupholster one day), which took shelter in my basement. Some serious furniture shufflin’. 😂
Ready and raring for a 2020 living room refresh, I turned to Article’s distinctive array of mid-century modern and unique, brightly-saturated furnishings to amp up the cohesive color game throughout the home (see guest bath); highlight shape and symmetry inviting spaciousness to the floor plan; and overall, tie in all of the foundational deco-decor vibes goin’ on (like that chandy omggg!). My parents love to collect French lithographs and possess countless brassy and textured accents (and plants!!! 🌿) that’ll top off this fresh new space.
