Boho Mod Glam Entryway – One Room Challenge – Week One
Well, I have officially deemed myself Grade A crazy. Since I already had plans to re-do my bitty bungalow entryway, I thought, maybe I can swing the One Room Challenge. I’m in the thick of my photography season and blogging has taken a predictable toll, but by golly gosh darn it, I’m doing it.
Sometimes we just need to say what we want out loud to keep ourselves accountable and get shit done. Plus, she’s tiny and just right.
What the heck is the One Room Challenge? It’s a bi-annual design challenge that inspires and encourages designers, homeowners, and creatives alike to recreate any space in their home over the course of six weeks. I know, I told you I was crazy. This is my third ride on this rollercoaster.
BUT FIRST, THE MOODBOARD …

Boho Mod Glam Entryway, Let’s Go!
Let’s talk about this entryway. She’s been waiting a while for the TLC she deserves. All this space needs is some good ol’ fashioned elbow grease and steadfast ingenuity. She’s petite, and when I’m through, she’ll pack a punch.
There’s two areas at play: 1) the foyer and 2) the lifeless welcoming space.
The foyer measures 3.2-ft. x 4.5-ft. This antechamber leads into the lifeless welcoming space, which encompasses about 4-ft. x 4-ft. With all the windows and doorways in my floor plan, it’s always been tough to situate. That and the protrusion of the massive HVAC return makes for one fun, decorative puzzle.
The To Do List
In the foyer, I’ve got to paint the raw door trim (it got installed three years ago 🙈); strip the closet door and french door; install the custom-cut tropical palm wallpaper from Coloray; and install the A-frame globe chandelier from Pepe + Carols. Then drop a rug and some artwork like it’s HOT.
Let’s pause at the french door for a sec. Straight up, the previous owners of this house were butchers. Maybe not all, but lots. The door is an original (praise be) and at some point, SOMEONE had the bright idea to take an sander and beat the shit out of it. They botched the panels and scuffed the life outta the glass panes. Needless to say, I’ll be teaching myself how to repair light scratches in glass. YAYYYY. 😑
In the lifeless welcoming space, I’m ready to tackle a project I dreamt up two years ago. What’s a girl to do with an abyss of rando space? Build shelves, obvy. More storage for the chotch. I’d like to construct six DIY floating shelves. The design is still in the works. I can’t decide whether to hide the supports or just embrace them. I’m envisioning poplar or prefinished maple.
Behind the shelves, I’ll bring in a bold, punchy color with paint (perhaps wallpaper 🤔). I’ll install a plug-in sconce from Pepe + Carols, all the plant babes (possibly from the ceiling), extra seating for company and a styled round up of my favorite treasures. Oh!! And storage with access to our silly mutt’s playthings (which he requires).
What’s Staying
I’m pretty confident the three large prints on the HVAC return will stay. I’ve always loved the way they looked there AND they represent where my husband and I (Southern California and New York, respectively) are from and where we settled (New England). Plus, we found them in Charleston. Best city ever. One of many bests.
There you have it. Not a traditional “room,” but this small change is going to have major impact. Not only with this jive up the open concept between the living room and office, it will make a lasting impression on guests as soon as they arrive. I can’t freaking wait.
YOU GOT THIS. I GOT THIS. LET’S DO THIS!!
Catch you next week!
