If I may be frank, this bedroom is bangin’. I’d been forever wanting to find the finishing touches for this master bedroom to feel complete. Mixing some old and some new finds along with shopping the house took this master bedroom refresh to the next level. And that level is, once again, BANGIN’. 💯 Check out the before here!
I’m going to come right out of the park with my most favorite NEW change in this entire space: the Marion Canopy Bed from The Novogratz. Oh. Mah Gah. First of all, so sexy to look at. Secondly, she sturdy. No squeaks, no creaks. 😉 Thirdly, and most certainly not lastly, I feel like a true grownup for picking my bed up off of the gosh-dang floor. Sayonara college chic; hello salty sophistication. How many plants do you think we can ultimately hang offa dis?
Straight up: the quality of this bed frame is supreme. The only part that seems ever-so-slightly wobbly are the longer duo of canopy bars, which is because they comprise of two separate pieces secured together. There’s plenty of plant-ery potential on the shorter canopy bars, so this girl can sleep peacefully dreaming of the future (hint: it’s very green).
Just the leg lift alone gets me. I catch myself staring at this openness underneath my mattress from another room and being SO delighted about it. My mattress is extra-thick (about 12” – 13” high) and is such a comfortable height from the floor now. Not only is she aesthetically-pleasing to look at, the bed frame tied in the (what felt like) bulky MCM-inspired nightstands and lines up just right to their height. An ideal sitch, if ya know what I mean, main squeeze.
PRO TIP: It only took about an hour to assemble and I highly recommend using a power drill—on a low setting to avoid over tightening—with a hex bit in lieu of the provided Allen wrench. Save yo’self a boatload of installation time.

The new modern fan couldn’t blend in any better. Ceiling fans are notoriously ugly, but let’s all admit it, they’re so goddamn useful! Especially when you’ve got two runnin’ hot kinda sleepers to cool down every night. 🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♂️ Unlike the stand-out, teak-textured beauty I installed in the living room, this fan was chosen for its all-white color, clean lines and sleek design, allowing it to “fade into the distance,” perfectly balancing form and function. The size was a little chunkier than expected, but it’s still worked out jusssst right.
The dome-shade wall sconces simply make my heart skip a beat. Since I had to replace the former glammy getup—my gorgeous thrifted brass beauts—I’m real glad it’s these glitzy gals. To me, if there’s an empty wall, it warrants some form of lighting. It’s expensive to hire an electrician to install wall-mounted lighting, so plug-in sconces are one of those fabulous gifts from the design gods. In less than thirty minutes, I had these babies ready and raring to go.
The master bedroom OGs that live on are a mix of older and newer finds: the removable wallpaper, the oversized lumbar pillow, tigress lumbar pillow, tiger rug art print, orange throw, jute rug, bamboo blinds, and, of course, my two solid statement thrift finds: the early-1900s hand carved mirrored armoire and vintage (but still pretty beat up 😆) 15-drawer MCM dresser.

There’s nothing quite like “dusting off the ol’ shelves” to promote that feng shui feeling. The floating shelves got a little switcheroo shopping my home and voilà! Feels like freakin’ new. Curtis the cactus is looking mighty fine donning a sunshine yellow fez and the flamingo neon gives off the best hot pink, brothel-like light at night. Saaah sexy, saaaah gooood.
Sadly, I ran into one unexpected hiccup: I was unable to install the Legrand switches due to current electrical compatibility issues. You have no idea how excited I was to slowly start matching up all my switches and outlets throughout the house! Even though it’s not in the budget at this time, it’s OK. I’m still falling hard for my House of Antique Hardware reproduction wall plates and switch covers. S’all good in the hood.
My master bedroom finally feels right. Light, bright, airy, bold, colorful, fun and cozy AF. Just how I like it!! I really just love the way the canopy bed occupies the space. It’s not too thick and feels like it was always meant to be. Only took like four years to get here. Slow and steady.
What’s your fave part of the refresh?!
