How Paint Transformed This Bedroom into a Luxurious Retreat
Burgundy, break out that yazz flute 🎷 ‘cause this bedroom refresh is classy af!! The Brigham Craftsman’s master bedroom has gone through a few iterations over the years (I’ll always particularly love this bright, sunny version).
Lately, I’d found myself craving a sexier and sophisticated sleep-room atmosphere—a luxurious retreat like never before! Well, I took a leap of faith and here’s the result…
After deliberating a half dozen moodier, out-of-the-box and mostly gem tone colors for a couple of weeks, I made the decision to take the leap on Benjamin Moore’s Crushed Velvet. Lathering this rich berry-licious hue on these walls resulted in a deeply romantic, vintage vibe with a modern classic twist.
To say I’m in love is 1000% an understatement. Infatuated is more like it.
This was a bold color risk—certainly outside of my comfort zone for a wall color! When I opened the can to get started, I stopped dead in my tracks and internally asked myself, “GURL, did you really pick this color?!” It was an electric pink/purple while wet.
Nevertheless, I’m familiar with that uncomfortable feeling a gal gets in her gut when she’s trying something new. So, I slapped the first brush strokes and just went for it.
Much to my surprise, this intense black raspberry-like hue (not to mention, my second favorite ice cream flavor—thank you very much) took a minimum of three coats and about ten hours for full coverage. The opulence it radiates was worth every minute.
The funniest part of this sappy paint story is I intended to have this bedroom project completed for Hubby and I’s eighth anniversary (and a good night’s sleep, too!). We’d both been working all weekend and hadn’t seen each other in several days.
This unexpected paint delay had us sleeping in the guest room for two nights. Hilarious and zero complaints here; I’d happily move into any bedroom in this bold, bitty bungalow.
Two gallons of this swanky shade simply transformed this bedroom into nothing short of a luxurious retreat. There were only a handful of key design elements upgraded for a cohesive color palette.
For a striking contrast, I showcased a statement seascape from my thrifted art collection. A fresh set of moss-colored velvet accent pillows; wonderfully-breathable linen sheets in a complimentary color (my current obsession); and a magnificent, American-made, cozy-as-heck knitted pomegranate throw blanket ties it all together.
Donning a vintage Victoria Secret satin robe—from my favored old lady-manned local consignment shop no less—might just be the cherry on top of the cake. Oh wait, just kidding … it’s how damn good this room still looks with an unmade bed. #winning
